Donald Trump, Vat my hand

September 24, 2025 Live events Original Music Poetry

I write poetry and lyrics in English and in Afrikaans. About all kinds of subject matter. In all kind of styles.

In this case I took the old and popular song, Boesmanland by Worsie Visser, and rewrote it with a focus on Donald Trump’s invitation to resettle White South Africans in the US of A as refugees.

Then I got some friends to come clown around with me in front of a Voortrekker Ox Wagon Monument in the town of Napier in the Western Cape (and a few other places), on camera, and committed the whole completed lot to the internet. While filming on the monument, we were lucky enough to have Oom Gert van Dyk drive by and then come back and talk with us about what we were doing. The reason that was a lucky thing is because he was one of the people who actually built the monument back in 1988. He was delighted that it was being put to some cultural use!

This is the result of all that effort and fortuitousness.
